Moving to the state
Already licensed somewhere else?
Iowa has enacted the ASLP-IC but is not yet issuing compact privileges, so audiologists and speech-language pathologists licensed elsewhere still need a Iowa license for now.
- Licensed in another state
- Applicants licensed in another state must meet Iowa's licensure requirements, submit license verification from every state where they have been licensed, and verify at least five years of independent licensure in one or more states; those who do not qualify may be eligible for licensure by verification. [2]
Before your full license
New graduates and clinical fellows
- Temporary or provisional license
- A speech pathologist temporary license ($120 fee) requires a master's degree transcript, verification of at least 400 hours of supervised clinical training, Praxis results, and a completed, signed Supervised Clinical Experience Plan with a board-approved supervisor before it is issued. [3]
After you are licensed
Keeping the license active
- Renewal
- Licenses renew every two years; the renewal period begins January 1 of an even-numbered year and ends December 31 of the next odd-numbered year. [4]
- Continuing education
- Speech pathologists must complete at least 26 hours of board-approved continuing education each two-year period (January 1 of each even-numbered year through December 31 of each odd-numbered year). [5]
