Moving to the state
Already licensed somewhere else?
New York is not a member of the ASLP-IC: audiologists and speech-language pathologists licensed in another state need a full New York license before starting.
- Licensed in another state
- SLPs licensed in another U.S. jurisdiction may be licensed by endorsement (Path A) with an acceptable program including at least 60 semester hours, at least two years of post-licensure experience within the six years before applying, a passing Praxis score, certification such as ASHA's, and good standing in every jurisdiction. [2]
Before your full license
New graduates and clinical fellows
- Temporary or provisional license
- An optional limited license ($70 fee) lets an applicant practice under the supervision of a licensed speech-language pathologist to complete the experience requirement; it is valid for one year and may be renewed for additional one-year periods until the experience is completed. [2]
After you are licensed
Keeping the license active
- Renewal
- The license does not expire, but the registration required to practice expires and must be renewed every three years. [3]
- Continuing education
- SLPs must complete 30 hours of continuing competency learning activities every three-year registration cycle, at least 20 of them in a professional area, with no more than two-thirds through self-directed online study. [4]
