Moving to the state

Already licensed somewhere else?

Ohio is a ASLP-IC member and is issuing compact privileges: audiologists and speech-language pathologists licensed in another member state can obtain a privilege to practice in Ohio without applying for a new state license.
Licensed in another state
The board waives the examination, educational, and professional experience requirements for applicants who show a current ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in speech-language pathology in good standing. [6]
Interstate compact
Ohio is an operational ASLP-IC member; since February 9, 2026, Ohio-licensed practitioners can register and begin the privilege-to-practice process. [10]

Before your full license

New graduates and clinical fellows

Temporary or provisional license
Applicants completing the required supervised professional experience must hold a conditional license, which allows practice under the supervision of a fully licensed person and is valid for eighteen months. [7]

After you are licensed

Keeping the license active

Renewal
Licenses renew online through eLicense every 2 years, between 10/2 and 12/31 of each even-numbered year; the renewal fee is $120, with an added $120 late fee if not renewed by 12/31. [8]
Continuing education
Licensees must earn twenty continuing education hours in each two-year licensure period, including at least two hours related to ethics and ten hours specific to the clinical practice of speech-language pathology; no CE is required for the first renewal. [9]
