How to get a Nevada speech-language pathology license

Speech-language pathologists in Nevada are licensed by the Nevada Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensing Board. Below is what the board requires, from education to renewal, with every requirement linked to the board page it comes from. Checked October 22, 2026.

Step by step

Getting licensed

Education
Applicants must hold a master's degree or higher from an educational program accredited by ASHA. [2]
National exam
Provisional license applicants must have a passing Praxis score sent directly to the Board by ETS; standard license applicants must hold the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP). [2]
State law exam
No state jurisprudence exam is required for licensure; the Board's Jurisprudence Exam is optional and encouraged for new applicants and renewing licensees. [3]
Background check
The Board does not require criminal background checks, but applicants must answer attestation questions about criminal history and professional licensing actions. [4]
Fees
The initial fee for a standard speech-language pathology license is $250, which covers one year. [5]
Where to apply
New applicants apply through the Board's Apply Online page, which links to the online license application. [3] Open the application →
Processing time
Once a complete application and payment are received, a speech-language pathology license is typically issued within 10 business days. [4]

Moving to the state

Already licensed somewhere else?

Nevada has enacted the ASLP-IC but is not yet issuing compact privileges, so audiologists and speech-language pathologists licensed elsewhere still need a Nevada license for now.
Licensed in another state
SLPs eligible for a standard license may request a standard expedited license by endorsement if they hold a current, valid and unrestricted license in another U.S. state, territory or the District of Columbia and have no history of discipline, investigation or malpractice action. [6]
Interstate compact
Nevada joined the ASLP-IC through Assembly Bill 230, effective July 1, 2025, but the Board lists Nevada's participation as pending and not yet operational. [7]

Before your full license

New graduates and clinical fellows

Temporary or provisional license
A provisional license is issued to SLPs with a master's degree who are completing the clinical fellowship year toward the CCC-SLP; it expires 1 year after issuance and may be renewed for 2 additional 1-year periods. A temporary license (6 months, renewable once) is available to SLPs licensed in another state who will practice in Nevada for less than 12 months. [2]

After you are licensed

Keeping the license active

Renewal
Standard licenses expire 1 year from the date of initial licensure and are renewed annually; online renewal opens 60 days before expiration, and late renewal is allowed up to 30 days after expiration for an additional fee. [2]
Continuing education
Licensees must complete at least 10 hours of continuing education for each annual renewal, including at least 1 hour on ethics, cultural competence, cultural humility, culturally responsive practices, or diversity, equity, and inclusion. [2]
