How to get a Wyoming occupational therapy license
Occupational therapists in Wyoming are licensed by the Wyoming Board of Occupational Therapy. Below is what the board requires, from education to renewal, with every requirement linked to the board page it comes from. Checked October 22, 2026.
Step by step
Getting licensed
- Education
- Applicants must complete the academic requirements in an occupational therapy program accredited by ACOTE (or a successor organization) and the program's supervised fieldwork. [2]
- National exam
- Applicants must pass the NBCOT Certification Examination for Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR), or the current exam recognized by the board, and have the official score report sent to Wyoming. [3]
- State law exam
- Wyoming has no state OT exam; the board relies solely on the NBCOT exam. [4]
- Background check
- The board queries the National Practitioner Data Bank on new and renewal applications to check whether any state has reported an adverse action against the applicant. [5]
- Fees
- The application fee for a full OT license is $225, payable to the State of Wyoming. [6]
- Where to apply
- OT applications (by examination, by endorsement, limited license, and re-entry) are posted on the board's Applications page to download or print and complete. [5] Open the application →
- Processing time
- The board states that processing time for all applications is 10-15 business days once a complete application is received. [5]
Moving to the state
Already licensed somewhere else?
Wyoming has enacted the OT Compact but is not yet issuing compact privileges, so occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants licensed elsewhere still need a Wyoming license for now.
- Licensed in another state
- OTs currently licensed in another jurisdiction apply by endorsement and must have official license verification sent from every state where they hold or have held a healthcare profession license. [6]
- Interstate compact
- Wyoming's Board of Occupational Therapy is a member of the Occupational Therapy Licensure Compact. [1]
Before your full license
New graduates and clinical fellows
- Temporary or provisional license
- Endorsement applicants who hold a current license in another state may also request a temporary license, valid for 90 days after approval; the OT cost is $275 ($225 license plus $50 temporary). [6]
After you are licensed
Keeping the license active
- Renewal
- OT licenses are renewed each year (the current form is the 2026-2027 renewal application); the OT renewal fee is $110 if returned on or before June 15, 2026, and $210 after that date. [7]
- Continuing education
- Licensees must complete 24 hours of continuing education every two years; someone first licensed in an odd-numbered year needs only 12 hours by the first even-numbered year. [7]
